One of the most popular jerseys from the Angels’ 1997-2004 era is the number 15 jersey worn by Tim Salmon. And for good reason. Tim Salmon is widely considered as one of the best players in the Anaheim Angels during that period, which is impressive because the Angels at that time maintained a core team, and it was a heck of a core team full of all-time greats and solid performers.
The fact that the Angels hasn’t officially retired Salmon’s 15 jersey does not mean he hasn’t made a mark, because the jersey has not been re-issued since his retirement in 2008. As for how great he was, it is better to look at his accomplishments during the period:
Received votes for MVP in two separate seasons
Won a Silver Slugger Award
Was part of the team when the Angels won their first and only World Series championship
Was part of the team’s 7-game victory in the series, where he batted .346
Perhaps it is because Salmon played in an era where there are already many great players in the league, that he was never selected for an All-Star game. But it cannot be denied that he is considered by fans as one of the best the team has ever had, as proven by how he is given the nickname “Mr. Angel” by many Angels fans. His jersey is sought by many fans, and we cannot disagree with the reasons why.
